The stand is most famous for its pork chop barbecue on Tues. evening. Proceeds from the sales sup port the 4-H Therapeutic Riding Club, for handicapped children. Ackley said Young Fanners donate $l,OOO a year to the Thera peutic Riding Club. Although Farm Women Society 3 is an ag related organization, its food stand is not located in Tent City but at the Main Street concessions. For 73 years, the Farm Women’s stand has attracted diners to its sit-down stand with its homemade specialties. Members start weeks in advance of the Fair to roll out pot pie made with 100 pounds flour, 22 dozen eggs, and 60 pounds of potatoes. Members cook and debone 2SO pounds of chicken for chick en com soup, make applesauce and pepper cabbage, shell, grind and freeze 1,100 deviled clams and other made-from-scratch entrees. Esther Stuber, who has helped with the stand from the beginning, said, “We’ve done this for so long that we have a system. It (the work) really isn’t hard at all.
