Archer Reigns As Maryland Farm Bureau Queen EVA MARTIN Maryland Correspondent TIMONIUM, MD. Kristin Archer, Harford County Farm Bureau Queen, represents Mary land Farm Bureau as their Queen for 1993. The contest took place at the Cow Palace of the Maryland State Fair Sunday night. Kristin was chosen from participants rep resenting 23 Maryland counties. She accepted her crown from 1992 queen, Dawn Downey. Archer lives with her parents on a dairy and grain farm near Pyles ville. Her farm responsibilities include milking, feeding and field work. She has been active in 4-H for the past nine years, showing her Holstein dairy animals, and entering projects in foods, nutri tion, woodworking, and child care. Participation in public speaking, dairy bowl and dairy judging contests won her awards during the past several years. Kristin has gained experience for her role as queen from her reign as 1992-93 Baltimore/ Harford Dairy Princess. She enjoyed promotional demonstra tions in schools, at fairs and to the media. Archer excels in Held hockey and lacrosse, winning grants for each sprat at Harford Community College where she is a freshman. She plans a career in physical therapy. Impromptu questions were drawn from a cardboard barn. The farm Bureau Queen’s Court included first runner-up, Wendy Walmsley, Queen Annes County; second runner-up. Rebec ca Ripley. St. Mary’s County: third runner-up, Marie Speak, Carroll County; fourth runner up, Sara Morris, Kent County. Judges for the contest were Kim Bower-Spence, associate editor of Pennsylvania Farmer; Patti Crow, chairman. West Virginia Farm Bureau Women’s Committee; and Tim Bigham field advisor. New York Farm Bureau. Emcee for the evening was John Butler, field ser vices director of Maryland Farm Bureau. Entertainment was furn ished by David Stambler Quartet. Each of the county queens gave a prepared speech about their farming background, 4-H, com munity and county history. A question was drawn for general farming knowledge and promo tion. The queens met with judges prior to the evening cpntest for a formal interview and were scored on farm, home and community responsibilities, general appear ance, speaking ability, personality and friendliness.
