These exchanges broaden the perspective of 4-H’ers who get a chance to see other areas and eat ethnic foods. “It was like culture shock when we went to Louisiana. We did not have a potato to eat all week. Instead, they fed us Cajun food rice and beans.” As a result of that visit, Craig prepares rice dishes at least weekly for her family. “I learned the right way to cook rice when I was there,” she said. Many of the exchange members continue to correspond with their host families. At the 4-H Fair, more than 1,200 projects entered by 4-H’ers were judged. Facing a gall bladder surgery, I visited the hospital for my pre admission testing. I had my urine, blood, heart, and lungs checked. Then I got a surprise. Someone wanted to know about my “advance directives”. I shouldn’t have been surprised. As county extension director for Penn State Cooperative Extension in Wayne County, I have written articles about living wills and sent out many copies of a Penn State publi cation “Living Will: Your Advance Directive for Health Care”. But somehow I never found the time to sit down and prepare my own living will. Now days before my surgery I must Model PLS - 21.5L"10-ply Exchange Club (Individual Project), Member Of Mastereonvllle Club. BRAIDED RUGS; Jen Ranck, Conestoga Valley: Janelle Rtze, New Holland. On the positive side it is forcing me to think about what medical care I want and what I don’t want. I’m also talking with my husband and children about these issues. I’m encouraging my husband and 18-year-old daughter to make their own living wills. None of us knows when we might need this important docu ment. Do yourself and your family a favor make time now to sit down and discuss this issue. If you want more information and a sample living will, request the Penn State publication “Living Will: Your Advice Directive for Health Care” from your local Penn State Cooperative Extension Office or call the Wayne County Extension office (717) 253-5970 ext. 239. •81 Inch wheel - Truck-mount track available - Hydraulic or - Corrosion manual gate resistant - 30 inch “Cor-Ten" drag chain steel hopper - Wide, even spread pattern is excellent for topdressing. - Standard unit spreads lime, too.
