The Chester County board of commissioners and the county Ag Land Preservation board have joined forces with the Brandywine Conservancy to better coordinate farmland preservation efforts in the Octorara and Oxford regions' of Chester County. Commissioners’ Chairman Karen L. Martynick said the coun ty and the conservancy recently signed an agreement formalizing communication channels and es tablishing a relationship of mutual cooperation toward the goal of preserving Chester County’s farmland. Commissioner Marty nick said the partnership approach will provide benefits the farmers as well as the cause. “This agreement creates a greater potential for successful farmland preservation activities in the areas west of Route 41. We will be sharing information and resources which will help us as or ganizations committed to preserv ing farmland. It will also help the area’s farmers as (hey make deci sions about their futures and the options available to them,” Marty nick said. County officials indicated that the Memorandum of Understand ing sets out general areas of co operation between the county and the conservancy including regular communication regarding pre servation activities in the areas west of Route 41, referrals to the organizations respective programs when appropriate, mutual assis tance to landowners in establish ing agricultural security areas, and the dissemination of information on estate planning and land pre servation options. Commissioner Joseph J. Kenna said the agreement also provides for greater communication with landowners and local officials. According to Commissioner Andrew E. Dinniman, the agree ment opens the door for some ex citing future projects. “We have now set the stage for the potential to implement co operative farmland preservation projects in the future.
