    Cattlemen’s Field Days Set
PORT MATILDA (Centre Co.)
The Pennsylvania Cattlemen’s
Association will co-sponsor two
field days in mid- and late-July.
The July 24 field day will be at
ErReR Hill Farm. Friedens (Som
erset County), Pa. ErReR Hill
Farm is owned by Sidney Riggs
and managed by Bob Hay, who is
also vice president of the Pennsyl
vania Cattlemen’s Association.
The Field Day will be co-spon
sored by the Somerset County
Cattlemen and the Pennsylvania
Angus Association.
There will be touts of several
interesting cattle and land man
agement practices at the ErReR
Farm Field Day, emphasizing
conservation practices which not
only enhance soil and land con
servation, but that also contribute
to more productive and efficient
cattle management. The tours will
include stream bank protection,
grazing systems, and other practi
cal land management methods.
The program will include pre
sentations by Dick Spader, execu
tive secretary of the American An
gus Association; Burton Eller,
executive vice president of the
National Cattlemen’s Association
in Washington, D.C.; Drs. Erskine
Cash and John Comerford. De
partment of Dairy and Animal
Science, Penn State University;
and several Soil Conservation Ser
vice specialists.
There will also be commercial
exhibitors with equipment, ser
vices, and products for field day

Oaks Farm near Gettysburg
(Adams County), Pa. The Adams
County Cattlemen’s Association
will also be involved in helping to
host the event. The Simmental As
sociation/PCA Field Day will in
clude many youth activities,
which are always popular, with
both youth and adults.
“The Summer Cattlemen’s
Field Days have always been
popular with people involved in
all segments of the cattle industry,
and with producers involved with
other enterprises. We have also
had many representatives from
magazines and newspapers at
these events it has been an edu
cational and enjoyable time for
everyone,” according to Dr. Low
ell L. Wilson, secretary of the
Pennsylvania Cattlemen’s Asso
ciation and professor of animal
science at Penn State University.

NEWARK. Del. The Col
lege of Agricultural Sciences at
the University of Delaware has
expanded Farm and Home Field
Day on Wednesday, Aug. 11 to an
all-day format.
The grounds of the Research
and Education Center on Route 9
just west of Georgetown will be
open from 8:30 a.m. until 5:30
p.m. with exhibits, demonstra
tions, and tours for homeowners
and farmers.#
Wagon tours in the morning
and afternoon will highlight envir
onmentally compatible agricul
ture, with a focus on agronomic
and vegetable research as well as
woodlot and wildlife conserva

nator of training for Pa.DHIA.
Bigelow has been an employee
of Pa.DHIA for nine years, serving
the last four as region manager for

a lawn irrigation system. Consum
