The Menges Mills Historic Horse, Steam and Gas Associa tion, a non-profit organization, is presenting its seventh annual sum mer show on July 17 and 18 at Elicker’s Grove (Labott Road, 1 mile off Route 30, near York Air port at Thomasville). Flea market and craft vendors will be selling their wares. Exhibitors will be displaying their antique tractors, cars, fire engines, and gas engines. Contests include a Slow Tractor Race, Tobacco Spitting Contest, Crosscut Sawing Contest, Pie Baking Contest, Peddle Tractor Mills Horse, antiques, crafts, and country cooking. There will be country music Friday, July 16 and Saturday, July 17 at 7:00 p.m. with “Pigeon Hill Station.” “Sally Shearer and the Skytoppers” will perform Satur day afternoon at 1:00 p.m. The purpose of the Menges Mills Historic Horse, Steam and Gas Association is to preserve ear ly American history. The Borderline Spinners will be demonstrating on their spinning wheels. The Blacksmith Sop will be open. Binding, threshing, bal ing, and seed cleaning demonstra tions will be held daily. New this year will be a shingle mill and broom maker displays. Kid’s games are scheduled for Saturday and Sunday. Kids can also ride on the hayrides and visit the petting zoo. The dunking booth will be set up. Bands are scheduled for Friday night, Saturday afternoon and evening, and Sunday afternoon. The Olde Tyme Days Chorus will sing at 1:00 P.M. on Sunday. Soc. 20 Lancaster County Farm Women #2O met with Vcma Hess on Thursday, June 3, with Olga Worth McClure and his granddaughter prepare the oxen for Olde Tyme Days. Oatman as co-hostess. Following the very timely refreshments including strawberries and ice cream, Olga had the devotions. For the scripture she read from the Book of Genesis followed by a poem ‘The Unicom” closing with the Lord’s prayer. After repeating the “Pledge to the Flag” the secret ary had the roll call to which the members answered by telling of a hazard in their home. The president, Nancy Axe, presided at the business meeting at which lime the Sunshine Commit tee reported six cards were sent during May. On July 14, Society #2O will be entertained by Society #l4. It was reported that Christ Home was chosen for the charily for the County. Definite plans were made for the Yard Sale to be held by Society #2O at the presi dent’s home in Strasburg and all were encouraged to participate in some way. The July meeting will be at the home of Vera Herr with Freda Wimer, Anna Mary Groff, and Kathleen Keen as hostesses. Lancaster Farming, Saturday. June 19, 1993-821 Berks Society Group #3 of the Berks County Society of Farm Women held its May meeting at the home of Diane Eddy, Willow Road, Boyertown. Nine members responded to the roll call question, “What is your favorite flower?” Thank you notes were received from Boyertown Multi-Service and the March of Dimes for recent donations. Two members from Group 3 attended the Spring Rally in Hagerstown Maryland, on May 26. Tickets were distributed for the Quilt Raffle sponsored by the Berks County Society of Farm Women. The drawing will take place at the County Convention on October 2 at the Ag Center. The next meeting will be a tour of the peanut butter factory in Conshohocken followed by a picnic lunch. Families of members are invited to participate. Society 4 Six members of Berks County Society of Farm Women Group 4 met in the Boyertown home of Elsie Rothenberger. President Mary Fizz reported on the State and County board meetings also on the Spring Rally. A pound auction was held dur ing the social hour. The next meeting on July 6, will be at the Boyertown RD #1 home of Marguerite Rush with a come as you are party on the agenda. Berks
