    Adams Extension Meets
GETTYSBURG (Adams Co.)
—Plans for a satellite downlink, a
report on the briefing for state
legislators, and a review of the
video, “The All American Apple”
were main elements on the agenda
when the board of directors,

Extension Association, met recen
tly at the Penn State Extension
Office. President Fred Kammerer
presided at the meeting.
David Benner complimented
the extension staff for their con
cise reports on the critical need for
ongoing research to solve prob
lems at a breakfast meeting for
state legislators held at the county
extension office. The meeting was
attended by Representative Ste
phen Maitland and his aide Sharon
Price, by Representative Steven
Nickol and by Charles Slrayer.

Hickey, scientist-in-charge at the
Penn State Fruit Research Labor

The Adams County Extension
Office will become a satellite
downlink site, capable of receiv
ing educational programs from
around the world. County Exten
sion Director Thomas E. Piper
repeated that the unit will be cost
shared by Penn State’s College of
Agricultural Sciences and could
be installed as early as mid-July.

mower has been avail
able since 1990, a kit
has been in stock to
make any John Deere
silver walk-behind
model a mulching mow
er.
In 1991, John Deere
developed the variable
plate mulching attach
ment for riding mowers
and tractors. The plate
can be adjusted to mulch
grass clippings or
leaves.
The same year, Deere
broke the two-blade bar
rier and provided a Tri
cycler for 38-inch
2-blade decks. In 1992,
Deere broke the 3-blade
barrier with variable
plate mulching systems
for 48- and 54-inch
mowers. For 1993,
Deere developed the
44-inch rear-discharge
mulching mower for
LX 178 and GT242 trac
tors.
