As a result of the Bal timore District’s 1992 Harrisburg Metropoli tan Area Regional Water Supply Study for which SRBC also served as non-federal sponsor the Capital Region Water Board urged the Pennsylvania Department of Environ mental Resources to request the assistance of the Army Corps to investigate the options available which would lead to a regionalization of small systems within the original study area. The year-long $lOO,OOO study is to identify and evaluate a range of regionalization alternatives to meet the fiitre water supply need for two groups of small water suppliers in Leba non County. A distribution net work will be designed to interconnect all systems within each group in order to facilitate regionalization of sour ces and treatment facilities. Interconnections with existing large neighboring water supp ly systems will also be considered. Selected alternatives are to be developed in sufficient detail to define an estimated cost and to make judgements on potential impacts and implementability. The development of detailed specifications for water supply facili ties and distribution sys tems will not be addressed.
