EPHRATA (Lancaster Co.) The Ephrata Area Young and Adult Farmers’ Association (EAYFA) held its 24th annual awards banquet at the Ml Airy Fire Hall. The event was attended by 180 members, spouses, and guests. The program included greetings from Pennsylvania Association Presi dent Duane Kling of Union County and Cloister FFA President Court ney Myers. New officers were installed by Kling. retiring officers were hon ored. and music selections were provided by Cindi Garber. Numer ous door prizes donated by area agribusinesses were presented. Awards chairman Marvin Saud er assisted with the presentation of the following awards: • Outstanding Young Farmer Under 30 - Clair M. Beyer. Clair Beyer and his wife Lois reside at 305 Middle Creek Road, Lititz. They are members of the Indiantown Mennonite Church. • Outstanding Young Farmer Over 30 - Philip E. Risser. Philip and his wife Lisa and their 2-year old son. Brad, reside at4oo Shrein er Road, Leola. Their dairy opera tion consists of 60 cows and 50-60 dairy replacement heifers. They farm a total of 100 acres, which consists of com and alfalfa. Risser is a graduate of Penn State, where he received his bachelor’s. He con tinued his education at the Univer sity of Wisconsin, where he received his master’s in agricultur al engineering. Before returning to the home farm, he worked for Case IH in Chicago for three years. The Rissers attend a Lutheran church in Lancaster. • EAYFA Advisor Award - Charles E. Ackley. Charles Ack Tested and Approved for use in the post frame construction industry by engineers at The Pennsylvania State University and Wood Mechanics Personnel. ley was honored by retiring presi dent Nevin S. Homing for helping to organize the Ephrata Young Farmer Chapter more than 23 years ago and for serving as the charter advisor since 1968. Ackley will be retiring Grom the Ephrata Area School District in June 1993 after serving as a vocational agri culture teacher for the past 31 years. • Appreciation Award - Delores Lynch. Lynch is chair man of the Ephrata Area School District special education depart ment. As a special-cd teacher, she does many creative things for her students. Lynch and her students, for the past years, have presented a swap meet. Items for the swap meet were donated by the students and teachers and others in the school district.
