January 9, 1993 Facts And Special Attractions Listed For The 1993 Farm Show Sheep Show- The Dorset, Hampshire, Southdown and Suffolk breeding sheep will compete in the show ring on Sunday morning, followed by the Cheviots and Shrop shires showing on Monday morning, and the Corriedale, Merino and Rambouillet breeds on Wednesday evening. A meat breeds Supreme Champion will be selected at the conclusion of the final breed show on Monday and a wool breed Supreme Champion will be selected Wednesday night. Sheep To Shawl Contest- The 12th annual Sheep to Shawl Contest gets underway at 5 p.m. on Monday in the Small Arena. This popular event, co-sponsored by the Pa. Sheep and Wool Growers Association, finds teams sheering sheep, spinning the wool into yam, and creating beautiful shawls in just two hours. We invite you to stay until the judging is complete and bid on your favorite shawl during the auction. All proceeds from the shawls go directly to die team Supreme Champions- Selections of the prestigious 1993 Pennsylvania Farm Show Supreme Champions will be made for draft horses, swine, dairy cattle, beef cattle, sheep wool breeds and meat breeds after the last breed is judged in each department. The completion of the North east Building brings an additional two acres of exhibit space to the 1993 Pennsylvania Farm Show. The first level of the new build ing will house the draft horses and affords the other livestock ex hibitors an opportunity to expand their space throughout the North and Northwest Buildings. The second level, named the Family Comer, provides ample room for new commercial ex hibitors specializing in horticul ture, floriculture and landscape design. The farm and home exhib its and some of the commodity ex hibits have also been relocated to this area. Other attractions include a baby animal exhibit and en vironmental center. The Blue Ribbon Apple Pie and Cocoa Cooking Contests will be held Saturday, January 9, in a demonstration area on the upper level. Limited seating is available on a first-come basis. Thirty-five “show and Tell” presentations will be conducted at the demonstration area Sunday through Thursday by some of the state’s agricultural organizations. The subjects are quite varied and range from bonsai and beekeeping to hydroponics and herbs to weav ing and wetlands identification. Tours will begin in the Front Lobby of the Ag Building. Tour The Governor’s Residence- Guided tours of the Governor’s Residence at 2035 North Front Street will be offered on Tuesday between noon and 3 p.m. Visitors will see antiques and period furnishings at the Georgian mansion on the banks of the Susquehanna River. Vocational Agriculture Demonstrations- Throughout the week, vo-ag students will present demonstration on a wide array of agricultural activites. These presentations offer students an opportunity to improve their organization and public presentation skills..
