During 1992,940 cows were on test in the county producing an average of 18,470 pounds of milk, 594 pounds of protein, and 735 pounds of butterfat per cow. Receiving'recognition for the most improved herd by milk of 3,907 lbs. butterfat of 140 lbs. and protein of 128 lbs. went to Manzoni Brothers of Dallas. The cow with the top milk production was cow 916 owned by Hillside Farms, Inc., Shavertown, at 32,727 lbs. in 305 days. Hillside Farms, Inc. also owns the cow with the highest protein and butterfat production. That cow is Trudy is 1,093 lbs. protein and 1,786 lbs. butterfat in 305 days. Robert Hough, Stillwater received recognition for having 8 cows in the herd with Lifetime Pro duction Certificates totaling 1,019.043 pounds. Dairymen with herds in excess of 600 pounds of protein were Hillside Farms, Inc.; Jack & Nel son Dent, Berwick; Paul Stoss, Jr., Lehighton; Derwood & Dennis Moyer, Wapwallopen; Rob ert Hough; Pecora Brothers, Drums; and C.K. Troxell Farms, Lehighton. Herds with butterfat production records in excess 0f750 pounds were Hillside Farms, Inc.; Jack & Nelson Dent; Paul Stoss Jr.; Derwood & Dennis Moyer; Robert Hough; and C.K. Troxell Farms. The annual meeting of the Luzerne County Dairy Herd Improvement Association was held at the Lookout House, Rt. 93, Conyngham. Mar tin Smith, president, presided. Dixie Bums, Membership Development Manager, Penn State DHIA and Diane Mcllwain, Region 3 Field Manager, spoke on the various programs and de velopments in Pennsylvania DHIA.
