02-Lancaster Farming, Saturday, January 2,1993 Pennsylvania Farm Show January 9-14, 1993 Farm Show Complex Harrisburg, Pennsylvania Dear Friends of Agriculture I would like to extend this cordial invitation to you and your family to attend the 77th Pennsylvania State Farm Show in Harrisburg, January 9-14. Agriculture is the pride of Pennsylvania and the Farm Show is the pride of Pennsylvania Agriculture. Pennsylvania has good reason to be proud of its agricultural com munity, the leading force in our economy for 300 years Our 52,000 farm families are some of the most productive in the world. Cash income from farm marketings in 1991 was $3 49 billion and agricultural exports from the Keystone State now total $347 million annually In addition, agriculture stimulates $3B billion in economic activity and provides jobs for 20 percent of the state's workforce The incredible efficiency and productivity of Pennsylvania's farmers and agribu sinesses have kept the industry number one. The Farm Show is part of Pennsylvania's rich agricultural heritage. Not only is it the premier showcase of this great industry, it's also the largest indoor agricultural exposition in the country, and it's free! As an educational forum, the Farm Show has been instrumental in keeping farmers and consumers abreast of advances made in agricul ture. As a marketing forum, the show gives farmers a chance to compare equipment, services and supplies, while providing agribusiness with an opportunity to develop new markets. As a social and planning forum, it offers agricultural organizations a perfect location to meet during the week to discuss key issues and plan for the future. The State Farm Show is committed to exhibiting the best that agri culture has to offer and exhibitors will be handsomely rewarded for their efforts this year. To attract top quality agricultural products and livestock, a record $202,250 in premiums is being offered this year. The Farm Show has come a long way since 1917, with $735 in premiums and 440 entries. I hope you will be able to join us this year as we pay tribute to our number one industry and the farm families who keep it number one. HARRISBURG (Daiiphin Co.) —Alternate routes have been developed to aid in reducing any potential backup of traffic on Route 81 North and South and Route 22/322 East into the Farm Show this year. Authorities have long been concerned about the potential accident possibilities because of the intense funnel of traffic attempting to enter the show off the Cameron Street access cor ridor from these routes. This year alternate routes will have three message boards and signs marking different routes. They are: From a northerly direction on Route 81, the signs will be posted at Exit 22 directing the traffic off of Route 81 then north on Front Street to turn right onto Lingles town Road. Traffic signs will then direct the traffic to turn onto Industrial Road which leads to the HACC/Farm Show parking lots. Traveling on Route 22/322 East, the signs will direct traffic off of Route 22/322 south onto Front Street (Rockville Exit) and proceed south on Front Street and turn left onto the Linglestown Road.
