Santa Claus made an appear ance at the 64th annual meeting of the Adams County Dairy Herd Improvement Association. While this was an unplanned visit, it may be a good omen for Pennsylvania DHIA which has completed a turbulent year but moves with confidence into 1993. Santa’s visit came about when the DHIA meeting was postponed on Thursday, Dec. 10. and was changed to Monday. Dec. 14. at the fireball in Harney, Md. Santa showed up for the Leon’s Club Christmas Party which was held in the fireball that same evening. He intro duced guests and sponsors, and called upon Marcia Brown, secretary-treasurer, for current reports. In the election of directors, encumbents Jeff King, Alan Zepp and Samuel Stoner were all retained on the board. Speaking for DHIA techni cians, Deb Messinger and James Gilbert, Don Messinger expressed gratitude for member cooperation and support Lane Sollenberger, dairyman from Fayetteville, Franklin Coun ty, and Central District director for Pennsylvania DHIA, spoke about the management of Pennsylvania DHIA and said he has confidence that Pennsylvania’s program can compete favorably with anyone, anywhere. Sollenberger distributed a booklet explaining package ser vices available to members and said that through a process of “unbuilding,” members are free to choose only those reports which will best serve the needs of the farm. He spoke of the Individual Cow Page and promised a new manual “On How to Make PA DHIA Work for You.” Regional Manager Harry Fritz distributed bonus checks to the technicians and demonstrated the use of the laptop computers which technicians are beginning to use for transfer of bam records to the central records processing center.
