Boots and Saddles 4-H Clubs
meeting was held at the home of
members Amara and Robert
shuster-Edelson and was called to
order by acting president Jessica
Hill with 33 members in
attendance.
Pledges were given by Samara
Shuster-Edelson and Danny Tal
bot, with treasurers report by
Becky Preiss.
Old business covered Com
ntunity Hospital’s Lampeter
Horse Show, Horseless Clinic
given by Beck Preiss, and our
Florida hurricane horse rescue
effort. New business covered a
trail ride at Aton’s, gymkhana,
State Horse Show in Harrisburg,
and Boots and Saddles Club
Banquet.
Guest speaker for the evening
was Saranna Miller, Miller told of
the devastation to the horse popu
lation in Florida never before
has anyone ever had to cope with
so many animals in such need at
one time!
Hurricane Andrew has devasted
6,000 to 8,000 horses. The six
horses and pony clubs
eoordinated efforts have sent nine
tons of hay, 600 pounds of horse
feed, 80 halter, buckets, all kinds
of veterinary equiment and sup
plies, and sheets of heavy duty

ber 1, 10 Lycoming County 4-H
Horse and Pony members com
peted at the State 4-H Horse Show
in Harrisburg.
The annual event held at the
Farm Show Building drew more
than 850 entries from across Pen
nsylvania. To be eligible to com
pete at the State Show, members
had to win their classes at the reg
ional and local classes.
This year’s state winners were:
• Stephanie Beaver, reserve
champion (second) senior hunter
seat equitation. She is the daughter
of James and Patricia Beaver,
Allenwood.
• Kelly Pentz, third place in
quarter horse colt of this year. She
is the daughter of Barb Pentz,
Montoursville.
• Jennifer Starr, champion
(first) in quarter horse colt of this
year, reserve champion (second)
place in 3-year-old wester plea
sure futurity, reserve champion

clubs across the county. These
clubs are open to boys and girls,
ages 8 to 18. Club activities typi
cally includes educational clinics,
field trips, horse events planning,
demonstrations, and various
“learn by doing” activities.

The 33rd annual State 4-H
Horse Show was held the end of
October at the Farm Show Com
plex in Harrisburg. Following are
the results of Adams County 4-H

Awards Program.
Rachel is the daughter of
Robert and Elizabeth Coady,
Spring Run. She is a member of
the 4-H Shepherds Ridge 4-H
Club led by Beth Keener.

plishments, Rachel will be attend
ing the five day National 4-H Con
gress at the Chicago Hilton and
Towers in December as a guest of

Coady joined 4-H nine years
ago as a member of the 4-H Sheep
club. She later helped form the
Shepherds Ridge 4-H Club.
She has been an active member
of 4-H, attending various local,
regional, and state events.
This spring, Coady was
selected to represent Franklin
County in stale competition. Fol
lowing a review of her 4-H record
and a personal interview, she was
selected to represent Pennsylvania
the National 4-H congress.
