Salmonella Risk Guidelines Developed COLLEGE PARK, Md. A task force of the United Slates Animal Health Association con sisting of 70 veterinarians, poultry industry personnel, and other interested persons throughout the nation has developed a set of guidelines to help table egg pro ducers reduce the threat of Sal monella in both their flocks and products. The 16-month effort resulted in a 35-page document published in the 1991 Proceedings of the 95th annual USAHA meeting in San Diego, Calif. Single copies of the document, “Salmonella Risk Reduction for Table Egg Producers,” are avail able free on request from the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Ani- Lancaster Farming, Saturday, November 7, 1992-Cll mal and Plant Health Inspection Service. Although aimed at large com mercial operators, the document also contains useful information for owners of backyard flocks, game birds, and other small-scale poultry enterprises. In addition, the document con tains an extensive list of educa tional resources for flock owners. ranging from video-tapes on biosecurity to booklets and bro chures on egg sanitation, laborat ory procedures, and rodent/insect control (vector control).
