A purebred Angus weigh ing 1.230 pounds out of the middle weight class picked up supreme champion market steer last week at the Solanco Fair. The Angus, shown by Jim Land is, 18, Quarryville, caught the eye of show judge Tim Beck, York County livestock agent. Beck called the steer “market ready” and preferred it over the reserve shown by Brad Linton, 16, Kirkwood. Jim, Solanco FFA member, raises about 10 steer animals on his farm and said he was “tired of get ting a lot of reserves but no champ ions” in past shows, he said. Jim is the son of Jim and Linda Landis. Brad Linton, son of Fred and Deb Linton, Kirkwood, is a Solanco FFA member and has picked up several Solanco beef champions in the past. Brad showed his 1,140-pound Hereford/Angus/ Maine Anjou cross. Tom Herr won junior showman ship honors, and senior showman ship champion was won by Jim Landis. There were a total of 11 animals at the show.
