Two veteran York County swine breeders shared two of the York Fair open class swine show supreme titles, with a third claimed by a first-year 4-H exhibitor. Supreme champion boar was the winning Spotted entry of long-time breeders and exhibitors Jim Parlett and Son of Airville. The champion boar was a homebred, January-born entry. Taking the supreme champion gilt was another York County veteran, Roger Bankert of Hanover. His winning Chester female was March-bom. In the supreme champion barrow contest, 9-year-old Dallastown 4-H member Jocelyn Eberly beat the field of veteran competitors with her purebred Hampshire entry. The winning barrow, a youth project purchased from breeder Tom Frantz, Seven Valleys, also claimed the champion title in the 4-H market show. Duroc breed honors were shared by Tom Frantz, Seven Valleys, with the champion gilt; Roger Bankert, Hanov er, champion boar; and Jim Parlett and Son, champion barrow. Parlett also took both the gilt and barrow champion ships in Chesters, with the boar award won by Bankert. Spotted honors all went to Parlett. The Arlie Combower family of New Freedom swept the Berkshire division, taking all champion titles. Hampshire honors split among three exhibitors. Joce lyn Eberly had champion barrow, while Sue Thomas of Stewartstown had the gilt champion and Donna Straw bridge, Windsor, exhibited the champion boar. In the Yorkshire breed, Marylander Kenneth Bauer took both boar and gilt championships, with the barrow title going to Donna Strawbridge, Windsor. Larry Robinson, Delta, claimed champion boar and barrow awards in the Landrace breed show. Lacie Walk ins, Delta, exhibited the champion gilt. Rookie Tops York 4-H Market Swine JOYCE BUPP York Co. Correspondent YORK (Y ork Co.) —First-year exhibitor Jocelyn Eberly swept the 4-H market swine competition at the York Fair with her medium weight class champion. The 9-year-old Dallastown youth took top honors with a purebred Hampshire purchased as a feeder from Seven Valleys breeder Tom Frantz. Other weight class champions included John Strawbridge of Windsor and Mike S termer. In the 4-H swine breeding runoffs, championships went to several competitors, including Sarah Kitzmiller, New Freedom, Berkshire, and David Myers, Wellsville, Chester. Duroc champion exhibitor was Kimberly Frantz, Seven Valleys, Matt Trostle, Red Lion, topped the Spotted breeds and Landrace hon ors went to Delta exhibitor Lacie Watkins. John Strawbridge, Windsor, earned champion honors in both the Hampshire and York shire classes. Steve Wherley was selected champion showman, with Clinton Hoke named the reserve.
