EVA MARTIN Maryland Correspondent TIMONIUM, Md. The Maryland 4-H Judging Contest is hard work but exciting as each participant works from 8 a.m. until 3 p.m. in judging classes of animals. During the contest, they are not permitted to communicate with each other or anyone but the superintendent. Concentrating on each class, they put to use the knowledge their coaches have taught them during several months in practice. Then there is the wailing for each 4-H’er, as individual placings are computed and winners selected for awards at the evening program. As county teams sit in groups in the audience, loud cheers, clap ping, and cow bells jingle as they encourage their team members when called to the platform to receive their reward for a job well done. Tne 10 individuals scoring highest in the senior divisions remain at the fair for two days of coaching and practice. From these 10, four individuals are chosen, according to their five highest average scores to represent Mary land at the national contests. The four conestants chosen to represent Maryland at the Nation al Dairy Judging Contest in Madi son, Wis., are Marie Speak, from Carroll County; Chip Savage, of Montgomery County, Kristi Geary, Montgomery County, and Mark lager, of Howard County.
