It then sold for $5 per pound at the Friday night auction. Youth Fair In Mifflin County Held spirit of the 1992 Mifflin County Youth Fair. Grand champion beef and dairy cows were selected in last year’s newly built show build ing. A new, poured concrete floor in the livestock bam housed sheep, swine, goats, and steers, including Natalie Byler’s grand champion heavyweight steer, chosen by Judge Clyde Myers, Berks County extension agent. Reserve grand champion went to Adam Wert with his medium weight steer. Overall, Myers described the 32 animals shown as quality animals, nicely finished, and standards of the in dustry. In the dairy shows, a 3-year-old cow, Vem-Lee Helium Princess RL, owned by Michael L. Kline on McVeytown, took grand cham pion of both the youth and open shows. Judge Lynn Miller of Roy al Haven Farms in Towanda then chose a 5-year-old, C Orchard Lea Elevator Kay, owned by Matthew Kline of McVeytown, as reserve grand champion of the youth show. Darren Peachey of Peach View Farm in Belleville won re serve grand champion of the open show with 4-year-old Peach-View Count Brooke. In the youth shows, Andrew Reed of Reedsville won Ayrshire grand champion with an inter mediate calf, Chris Uhland of Lewistown won Brown Swiss grand champion with a summer yearling and Samantha Royer’s in termediate calf won Jersey grand champion. A junior 2-year-old, owned by John ledgers of Belle ville, won grand champion of the Ayrshire open show. Junior champion of the youth and open Holstein shows went to Matthew Kline and his senior year ling, Vem-Lec Trifecta Tammy. His brother Mike Kline won re serve Junior champion with his summer yearling, Vem-Lee Glow Eloise. Immediately following the dairy show, a gallon of milk from the grand champion was auctioned for $3OO, purchased by Dave Vogt of Olde Mill Pet and Garden. During the day on Wednesday, judges entered the ring to place 86 market hogs and, later on, 44 mar ket lambs. In the swine show, Amy Reed of Milroy earned grand champion with a 233-pound animal. A 248-pound hog exhibited by Gail Stine took reserve grand cham pion. A 110-pound lamb owned by Shelly Casner won grand cham pion while a 108-pound lamb own ed by Lisa Macknair was named reserve grand champion. Jeremy Fisher’s Suffolk sheep earned him grand champion of the Sheep Breeding Show and Mat thew Fisher’s Suffolk won reserve grand champion. During the Market Goat Show, Becky Seitz won grand champion with a 68-pound market goat. Re serve grand champion went to Ja son Snyder with his SI-pound ani mal. Livestock Auction The 1992 Youth Fair Livestock auction, the most successful in the history of the fair, saw 168 animals being sold for a total of $63,921.28 with 91 different buyers. Hoss’ Steak and Seafood bought Natalie Byler’s 1,265-pound grand champion steer for $4,680. Adam Wert’s reserve grand champion beef went to Brindle’s Hardware in Reedsville for $3,125. Miller’s Diner of Huntingdon paid $5.00 per pound for Amy Reed’s 233-pound grand cham pion market hog. Hickory Hills Farm paid $4.60 per pound for Lisa Macknair’s reserve champion market lamb.
