Lester and Douglas Mar tin were all over the winner’s list ings during the Jersey Show held recently at the Shippensburg Community Fair. The Martins, operators of Pleasant Valley Acres of Cham bersburg, probably could have used a bushel basket to carry their winnings home. For starters, they captured the coveted premier breeder’s award and the equally prestigious pre mier exhibitor’s award. Both hon ors were sponsored by Cumber land Valley Jersey Breeders. Another Martin win came when Jester Pride Pearl Daisy, a 3-year old shown by Douglas Martin, was named reserve grand champ ion open winner. That same ani mal was named reserve senior open champion. On top of that. Pleasant Val ley’s Milestone Faithful Flower, an aged cow, won best animal bred and owned by an exhibitor. The Martins were partially responsible for several other wins as well. The grand champion in the open competition, Clairwood Advancer Ginny, a 5-year-old shown by Jim Crouse of Cham bersburg, was bred by Douglas Martin. The cow’s dam was the Martins’ Pleasant Valley Design Goldie. Clairwood Advancer Ginny also was named the 4-H grand champion and the senior open champion. Pleasant Valley Shamu Diadra, a junior 2-year-old shown by Daniel Hockenberry of Cham bersburg, won the reserve 4-H grand champion and the reserve senior champion for 4-H titles. That cow was bred by Tina Martin of Chambersburg, the dam Martins Shine At Shippensburg being the Martins’ Pleasant Valley Master Diane. Dorian’s Legend Delaura, an aged cow shown by Melanie Diet rich of Newburg, won the FFA grand champion and FFA senior champion spots. Reich-Dale Brigadier Katie, a fall heifer calf shown and bred by Christopher A. Reichard of Cham bersburg, was named the FFA reserve grand champion. The produce of dam competi tion was won by Doug and Beth Rheinert of Chambersburg. Har old E. and Audrey I. Dice of Fre dericksburg took second and Corey Mellott of Mercersburg captured third. Deitrich, Walton Grand Showman, Fitter SHIPPENSBURG (Franklin Co.) Emily Deitrich was judged grand champion showman and filter during the 4-H and FFA colored breed showing and filling competition at the Shippcnsburg Community Fair. Also, Craig Walton was selected grand champion show man and filter for the 4-H and FFA Holstein showing and fitting contest at the fair. Sue Basehore was the judge for the colored breed event. All plaques for that contest were donated and presented by the John Ockcr 111 family. The winner in the inexper ienced class in the colored breed competition was Curtis Rcichard. Emmc Mcllot came in second, Rebecca Comman placed third, Barbara Rcichard finished fourth and Tristan Deitrich took fifth place. Emily Dietrich was the winner in the colored.breed intermediate class. Second place went to Heath Ocker, third went to Randy Reich- The junior open champion was Quest-End Baton Mention, a wint er heifer calf shown by Doug and Beth Rheinhart. The 4-H junior champion was Pleasant Valley Sargeant Heidi, a fall yearling heifer shown by Bradley L. Reich ard of Chambersburg. Reich-Dale Brigadier Katie was FFA junior champion. Reserve open junior champion was Reich-Dale Brigadier Katie also. Pleasant Valley Slarbuck Candice, a spring heifer calf shown by Holly Carbaugh of Chambersburg, was 4-H reserve junior champion. Mel-O-Dawn Lester Brandywine, a winter heif- ard, lourth was taken by Lori Mcl lot, and David Carball finished fifth. In the colored breed exper ienced event, the victor was Brian Reichard. Melanie Dciirich captured sec ond place, James Moffit won third, Mike Hcnsel came in fourth, and Jim Crouse finished in fifth place. The judge for the Holstein 4-H Auction Features DAUPHIN (Dauphin Co.) Dauphin County 4-H Clubs will hold their annual auction Friday, August 14, at 6 p.m. in the Small Arena of the Farm Show Complex. A special feature at this year’s auction will be the offering of sev eral of the 75th Anniversary 4-H Winross trucks. These trucks were er calf shown by Corey Mellott, was FFA junior reserve champion. The junior best-of-lhree finishers showed Doug and Beth Rheinhart in first, Jim Crouse in second, and Thomas F. In second place was Sarah Day, with Mary Varner in third, Ty Christman in fourth and Molly Schoenberg finishing in fifth. The intermediate Holstein judg ing saw Matthew Day taking first Winross Trucks designed and sold only in the capi tal region. This will be one of the few remaining chances to acquire one of these trucks. This year, the 4-H members will again be selling their quality lambs, market goats, and rabbits.
