A vivacious, busy, and versatile Leslie Fetter will represent Bed ford County at the state contest to be held in Harrisburg in September. A graduate of Bedford High School, enrolled at Elizabethtown College for the fall term, Leslie captured the crown with a winning smile and her crowd pleasing skit. Leslie rode a toy Massey Feigu son tractor and pulled a wagon with stuffed mini-Holsteins that mooed mechanically. She plans to major in business and political science at college. The daughter of Larry and Barb Fetter, Leslie helps to milk 30-head of Holsteins on her parents 126-acre farm. She is employed at the local Carriage House Restaurant where she greets guests at her table by wearing her crown and banner. Leslie was crowned by last year’s queen, Shannen Lafferty. A Way of Life Bedford County Crowns New Princess vals. meetings, parades, schools and on television and radio on behalf of the dairy industry last year. Also crowned at the pageant held in Loysburg in June, was Dairy Maid Nicole Ober, a ninth grader at Northern Bedford. Out going Dairy Maid was Janelle Koontz who traveled more than 1,000 miles to participate in dairy promotions. Kim Mountain, Northern Bed ford, and'Rhandee Dibert, Bed ford, will both serve as alternate princesses. Rhandee was also named Miss Congeniality. Alternate Dairy Maids known as “ambassadors,” are Dana Dibert and Amy Beegle both from Bedford. Already busy with the duties of her new title, Leslie Fetter has par ticipated in 16 events during her first month’s reign. Included were several parades, helping to create a giant ice cream sundae, dressing a calf, taking part in a street fair, and helping with a store promotion. Bn I I HAPPENINGS V I Lancaster Farming, Saturday, August 1, 1992-821 Special Events For Youth At Fair The Montgomery County 4-H Fair will be held August 13-15 at the Montgomery County 4-H Center, located on Route 113 one mile south of Route 73 in Creamery. Among the events open to youth are guinea pig races, a Horseless Horse Show, fun Olympics, make it and take it projects, and a pet show. The guinea pig races will be held on Thursday evening at 7:30 p.m. and again on Saturday at 10:30 a.m. These races will lake place in the rabbit lent. The more entries that participate, the greater the excite ment. There is no fee to enter. The Horseless Horse Show will take place on Thursday at 7 p.m. In this event, youth pretend that they are a rider from the waist up and a horse from the waist down, while they participate in real horse show type classes. Ribbons will be awarded to the winners. There is a fee of 50 cents per class enter, with some proceeds donated back to the 4-H center. Friday’s Events include the make it and take it projects at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. In this event, kids will be able to make little projects that they can take home with them. In addition, a fun Olympics will take place at 3 p.m. Games and races arc to be featured for a half hour. Prizes will be awarded to the winners of each event. There is no fee for either of these events. Saturday’s big feature is the Pet Show. There is no fee to enter this event. Prizes will be awarded to the best placings in each category. Only domestic animals may enter-no livestock or poultry are allowed. In addition, all pets are required to have all of their vaccinations up to date as required by the certain species. Registration for the pet show is at 1:45 p.m. with a 2 p.m. starting time.
