Each year the incoming officers and leaders are sworn in during a structured installation ceremony. Columbia County Extension Program Assistant Linda Hen dricks developed the 1992 instal lation ceremony, entitled “Com munication The Lines Are Open.” Installing officer, Brian Brecht, held a ball of yam and spoke these words, “With this ball of yam and your cooperation, it will become evident how the communication lines work within this organiza tion. After the officers and leaders were instructed in their duties, they passed the ball of yam along to the next person, thus creating several lines of communication. Brecht ended the ceremony by stating, “As you can see, the lines between us are sometimes diffi cult to follow.
