About 960 Farm Women Gather For Spring Rally LOU ANN GOOD Lancaster Farming Staff LANCASTER (Lancaster Co.) —About96o members of the Pen nsylvania Society of Farm Women celebrated their annual Spring Ral ly at the Host Farm in Lancaster on May 27. It was the 27th annual ral ly held by the organization founded by Mrs. Frank Black of Somerset County in 1917. Cathy Scott has been a member of Lancaster County Group 10, for 12 years. She said, “I look forward to the annual Spring Rally because It Is a nice group of ladles to fellowship with and It’s always a good program.” Officers of the Lancaster County Society who planned the Rally for jen members across the states are from left: Corlnne Nlssley, president; Joyce Slaymak er, Strasburg, first vice president; Kathryn Fry, Lancaster, second vice president; Bet ty Griffith, Quarryvllle, treasurer; and Julia zahn, chaplain. A member of Farm Women models during the Fashion Show that was part of the entertainment at the annual Spring Rally. The purpose of the Farm Women Societies are to contribute to the power and influence of farm women, community activity, and to better living and working condi tions in the farm homes of Pennsyl vania. About 175 societies with 3,371 members meet for monthly meetings. Twice a year, at the Spring Rally and at the State Con vention, the societies gather for joint sessions. The state society is headed by Arlene Whitman of Mount Joy. The Spring Rally does not include a business meeting, but is primarily a time for members to fellowship with each other and be entertained. On Wednesday, the program included a fashion show by Country Lane Boutique, Too, Landisville. Models for the fash ions were Farm Women members. A husband and wife team called Kinnier and Townsend presented a zany musical comedy by soliciting members from the audience to help them perform. Marie Gettle, a Berks County member, led the “Farm Women Tabernacle Choir" by playing music by using a wash board.
