That announcement was made at the recent Delmarva Poultry Booster Banquet in Salisbury, Md. by Fund Drive Chairman Lany K. Winslow. Winslow told the banquet’s nearly 2,000 guests the good news about the campaign. “As you have done so many times, all of you have come through to help our outstanding organization continue its many programs to assist all segments of Delmarva Poultry Industry, Inc. Truitt, Jr. received DPl’s Distinguished Citizen Award. The DPI Fund Drive is the non profit association’s method of rais ing money for its many programs and services. DPl’s membership, close to 4,000, includes poultry growers, allied industry suppliers of products and services, Delmar va’s eight poultry companies, poultry company employees, and hundreds of nonpoultry businesses on Delmarva which recognize the economic importance of the indus try to the area. Delmarva’s Distinguished Citi zen Award was presented to Ger ald B. Truitt, Jr., Salisbury, Md. This award is given in recognition of the recipient’s work on behalf of DPI, the poultry industry, and the community. Truitt, DPl's executive director since 1987, was active with DPI as a volunteer since the early 19605, serving on the DPI board of direc tors, as chairman of several com mittees, and as president in 1984. Prior to his employment with DPI, Truitt was active in Delmar va’s agriculture through his work in the fertilizer industry, as an agri cultural banker, and his service to many agricultural groups through out the area. The DPI Medal of Achievement was presented to University of Delaware poultry researcher George W. (Bud) Malone. This honor is bestowed upon a public servant of an agency or to a mem ber of an organization for out standing achievement and service on behalf of Delmarva’s poultry industry. Malone has been employed by the University since 197 S after receiving education at the Univer sity of Maryland Eastern Shore and the University of Massa chusetts. He has been an active member of several DPI commit tees and has been a speaker at countless DPI meetings, confer ences, and other programs. His research projects have been especially important to Delmar va’s growers and to the live pro duction segment of the poultry industry.
