822-Unc»sttf Fuming, Saturday, M»rch 7, 1992 n|| HAPPENINGS Berks 4-H’ers Recognized Paula Hunter of the Berks County 4-H Swine Club and Brett Shorley of the Top Notch 4-H Equestrians represented Berks County and Pennsylvania at National 4-H Congress is one of the highest honors an individual 4-H member can achieve. The five-day program in Chica go is attended by more than 1,500 4-H members from across the country and is filled with recogni tion events, educational tours, and programs. Their selection was based on their achievements reflected in the National 4-H Awards competition. Paula was selected in the Plant and Soil Science National Award program. Her 4-H Career is high lighted by her active participation in the gardening, horse, swine, sheep, clothing and textiles, and camping program. Brett was selected in the Horse Science National Awards program and his accomplishments in 4-H concentrate on the horse science, wood science, public speaking, and community service programs. Both Brett and Paula said the trip to 4-H Congress was the highlight of their 4-H careers. Paula is the daughter of Leon and Pat Hunter of Schmehl Road, Fleetwood and is a junior at the Oley Valley High School. LEOLA. PA *as*~ Conodoquinet 4-H Sheep Club The Conodoquinet 4-H sheep club met on February 19 at the Dickinson Township Building. New members are Sonya Rin nkcr, Josette Sought, Kendra Leh man, Amy Brehm, Matt Creek and Lloyd Bie. The meeting centered on the new project and record books. The 4-H club and the FFA will hold a benefit auction in May. The club will solicit items for the sale. Any donations would be appreciated. The sale will cover all costs of the summer roundup show and sale of the animal projects. The club will hold an Easter Egg Hunt for the children of the safe habour house. The annual banquet will be held on Thursday, March 26. The next meeting is April IS at the Monroe Township Building. 4-H Horse Club The start of the 1992 season of the Boots & Saddles Club was held at the Farm and Home Cen ter, Lancaster. There were 35 members in attendance. Becky Preiss, treasur er, gave her report. New officers for this year are Nathan Stoltzfus, vice president; Lori Hamish, sec retary; and Jessica Hill, assistant treasurer.
