Hundreds of family farmers and rural citi zens will gather at the Marriott Hotel in Des Moines the first four days in March for the National Farmers Union’s 90th Anniver sary Convention. Attendees will participate in policy discussions and hear from numerous political officials and agricultural leaders. Among the presenters at the convention will be R. W. Apple Jr., the internationally recognized correspondent for the “New York Times.” He will direct a lively open discussion among the presi dents of commodity organizations representing wheat, cattle, com, dairy, tobacco, and fruits and vegetables. Political leaders will also be on hand at this convention to listen to concerns voiced by members and delegates of the National Farmers Union. Governors Terry Branstad of lowa and Joan Finney of Kan sas will be speaking, as will U.S. Congressman Richard Stallings of Idaho and David Nagle of lowa. International agricultural issues and their impacts on America’s farmers will be explored by sever al guests, including Gerard Doornbos of the Netherlands Christian Farmers and Growers Union. Convention participants will also have the opportunity to be involved in informal discussions surrounding concerns with rural education and farming with two generations.
