If you’re searching for information on nutrition, you’ll find a wealth of it in the Interna tional Food and Nutrition (IFAN) data base. IFAN was developed by Penn State’s Nutrition Center and Col lege of Agriculture, with support from the U.S. Department of Agri culture. It is part of PENpages, a computer-based library of con sumer and agricultural informa tion provided by the College of Agriculture. “IFAN can be accessed 24 hours a day, seven days a week,” says Dr. Audrey Maretzki, profes sor of food science and nutrition. “All you need is a computer, com munications software and either a modem or access to Internet.” More than 700 nutrition docu ments are in the data base, ranging from fact sheets, news releases, and book reviews to consumer tips and the syndicated column “Food for Thought.” The information will be especially useful for those working in nutrition education and food programs such as EFNEP, WIC, Meals on Wheels, and local food banks. “Wc add new materials every week,” says Victoria Getty, IFAN editor and nutrition instructor.
