She and her sister, Amanda, 4, estimate that the 540-pound pumpkin exhibited by Tip and Dianne Ruffner might make “100 pies or maybe six.” The children’s irents are Geor and Nanr Boak. Christine Holtzlnger, 7, finds that her sister’s (Shannon’s) cow is a cozy spot to rest. The daughters help their parents, Kevin and Karen Holtzlnger, with Ke-Holtz Dairy of East Berlin. They have 275 cows with a rolling herd average of 18,700 pounds, and 215 heifers on their 900-acre farm. Shannon (sitting on the fence) said this is her first year of 4-H showing. She won the junior championship title at South Mountain Roundup and second place at District competition. Results from Farm Show competition were not available when this Icture went to press. A crowd of 9,000 attended the rodeo held In the large arena of the Farm Show on January 11. These kids wanted to see what It was like to ride In a rodeo. The announcer Instructed the kids to follow two rules; “Stay away from the back end—lt’s loaded. She said that her mom Is a good cook who wins lots of ribbons at the Lycom ing County Fair. Madeline and her parents Carl and Stepha nie, with Katie, 8, Ryan, 15, and friend Stacey Evans are from Williamsport. Seven-year-old John Lagan, 7, admires the vegetables showcased at the Farm Show. The son of Jack and Ruth Lagan of Balnbrldge said, “We have a garden on a hill and we want to make It like a farm, but the pumpkin seeds we planted didn’t give any pumpkins.” He added, “I think we should plant carrots because I like to eat them.”
