Show Opens With Something For Everyone (Continued front Pago A 1) ANIMALS ON DISPLAY - Over 5,000 animals will be exhibited throughout Farm Show Week. Sheep, swine, horses, dairy cattle, beef catde, dairy goats, poultry and rabbits will be the focal point of judging competitions and sales. ASSOCIATION MEETINGS - Farm Show Week pro vides a great opportunity for agricultural associations to conduct meetings since so many members are already attending or participating in the show. See the meeting schedule for the date and time of your organization’s meeting. BEEF CATTLE - See five different breeds of beef cattle in competition at the 76th Farm Show, The show features Angus, Charolais, Limousin, Polled Hereford and Simmental breeds. Open beef cattle judging is sche duled for Monday, and the junior beef and steers will be judged on Wednesday in the Large Arena. BRED GILT SHOW AND SALE - The Bred Gill Show and Sale affords swine breeders an excellent opportunity to purchase champion animals to build and improve their herds. For the first time, all eight breeds of swine will be sold on the same day Saturday ~ in the Small Arena. BUTTER SCULPTURE - A lifesize sculpture carved from butter will be on display in a refrigerated case in the front lobby. Sponsored by the Pennsylvania Dairy Promotion Prog ram, this year’s creation will focus on the importance of youth in our dairy industry by honoring the 3Sth anniver sary of the Dairy Princess Pageant Commercial exhibitors - see more than 275 commercial exhibits featuring the newest innovations in farm equipment, services and products. COOKING DEMONSTRATIONS - Looking for some new menu ideas? Cooking demonstrations will be fea tured daily in the Pennsylvania Food Pantry in the West Lobby. Student chefs from the Indiana University of Pen nsylvania and the Harrisburg Area Community College will share their culinary talents, preparing recipes with quality Pennsylvania food products. DAIRY CATTLE SHOWS - Over 400 head of dairy cattle representing the six major breeds will be exhibited in the North Building throughout Farm Show Week. Dairy cattle judging takes place on Tuesday in the Large Arena, concluding with a Parade of Champions and selec tion of the Supreme Champion Dairy Cow. DAIRY FUN NIGHT - Showgoers will find plenty to smile about during the Tuesday evening program in the Small Arena. Co-sponsored by the Pennsylvania Dairy Promotion Program, the event features an ice cream churning contest, a celebrity milking contest and a calf dressing contest in recognition of Pennsylvania’s out standing dairy industry. DAIRY GOAT SHOW - If the daily goats are on your list of things to see at the Farm Show, plan to attend on Thursday. The dairy goat judging begins at 8:30 a.m. in the Large Arena with competition in six different breeds. The dairy goats will be on display there throughout the day. DUQUESNE UNIVERSITY TAMBURITZANS - The nationally-acclaimed Duquesne University Tamburit zans, a 40-member ensemble of scholarship students, are scheduled to perform in the Large Arena on Sunday after noon. Their music, song and dance is an authentic rep resentation of the eastern European countries, complete with instruments, elaborate costumes and choreographies. EDUCATIONAL EXHIBITS - Federal and state gov ernment agencies, along with universities and agricultural organizations, offer Farm Show visitors valuable informa tion on their services and activities. The Farm Show pro vides an excellent opportunity to talk with representatives of these groups and get firsthand information. ENTRIES - Over 8,000 entries are expected to vie for record premiums in 30 departments of competition this year. This year’s competition promises to be spectacular, as 60 sets of costumed dancers vie for monetary prizes in three age divisions. During breaks in the action, 100 members of local clubs will demonstrate the latest in round and square dance techniques. FOOD COURT - The commodity food booths were expanded last year and moved to a new location called the Pennsylvania Food Court Vendors and hungry visitors unanimously called it the best improvement ever made at the Farm Show! The East Building is the place to look for milkshakes, baked potatoes, vegetable soup, chicken pieces and chicken com soup, deep fried mushrooms, potato donuts, lamb stew, apple cider, honey ice cream, pork barbecues, beef sandwiches and cinnamon rolls. Don’t be surprised to End several new food products on this year’s menu. 4-H HORSE DRILL TEAM - Members of the Cumber land County 4-H Horse Drill Team will perform an hour long precision riding program on Saturday afternoon in the Large Arena. Year after year, this group has been a popular attraction for Farm Show visitors. 4-H EXHIBITS - Along with the traditional categories like food and nutrition, clothing and textiles, Pennsylvania 4-H members can now submit entries in more creative subjects like animal science, entomology, photography, gardening, wildlife, forestry, health and child care projects. the 4-H display area, located on the Lower Concourse of the Large Arena, will be open to the public all week. GOVERNOR’S REVIEW - The Large Arena will be transformed into a showcase of Pennsylvania agriculture on Sunday as 25 commodity representatives present their product samples to Governor Robert P. Casey and Secret ary of Agriculture Boyd E. Wolff. The program starts at 10 a.m. this year, with a non-denominational worship ser vice. The Governor’s Review is at 11 a.m. Everyone is also invited to enjoy the entertainment of the famous Quaker City String Band, the draft horse hitched competition and the Duquesne University Tamburitzans.
