We have finally moved to our
new house and now I’m knee
deep m boxes. The first few days
it is a struggle to find necessary
items. Were are the postage
stamps? How do you cut paper
without a scissors or a knife? And,
what happened to all of the pencils
and pens?
Jeffrey, who lives in Georgia,
came and helped us for five days
while his sister took care of his
children. The children from the
two families were ages five, three,
two and one. One attends kinder
garten and one goes to pre-school,
which necessitated a lot of travel
On right, Arlene Witman, state president for the Society

of the Lancaster County societies.

ing between the two homes.
With Jeffrey and Philip’s help
all of the big pieces were moved
and set in place. We have an 1873
cherry bedroom suite, which was
my grandfather Landises and it
was handmade by a neighbor long
ago.
I tackled the kitchen first as that
is one of the most important
rooms. So, we haven’t missed any
meals. The problem is that as it is
smaller tham nay previous one
there is no place for a lot of items.
Even the stove is not a nice big
40-inch one that I had previously
used.

sented her.
Before the frost, with Allen’s
help, I moved more than 100
houseplants to two big bay win
dows and to a shelf stand.
When I finally unpack my big
collection of dishes, in some 20
boxes, it will be a colorful event.
You see, I wrapped all of them in.
Christmas paper that I’d saved for
20 years. I was just ready to bum .
the bags of beautiful paper when I
realized how I could use them. But
again, I’ll have one less built-in
comer cupboard to store them in.
Gradually we’ll become accus
tomed to oar new surroundings
but I’ll miss all of the activity that
happens daily on the dairy farm.
