A24-Uncaster Farming, Saturday, September 21, 1991 Lyndon LOU ANN GOOD Lancaster Fanning Staff QUARRYVILLE (Lancaster Co.) —There seems to be no stop ping Lyndon Reiff in sheep com petition. At Solanco Fair he took champion and reserve champion titles with his market lambs. He did the same thing last week at Denver Fair, and he had the champion market lamb at the 4-H Roundup. According to 17-year-old Lyn don, he was not supposed to win. He and his 13-year-old sister, Lisa, have about 13 lambs in there flock. They care and own them jointly and try to arrange taking turns showing the best ones. This time, Lisa presumably had the better sheep. “But you never know what the judges are looking for. Every judge is different,” Lyndon said. It was the first time, Lyndon showed Eenie, a heavyweight Lyndon said that he decided to show the lamb by haphazardly repeating the nursery rhyme Eenie, Mcenie, Miney, Moe at the sheep in the pasture. Fortunately for Lisa, the prize money is equally split between her and her brother. Lisa started the Fair season with champion and reserve titles at E-town Fair. And, she hopes to make a comeback next week at Lampeter and Ephra ta Fairs. The sister and brother team from Strasburg got their start in sheep raising six years ago when a friend of the family gave him a runt from his flock. It took at least two hours for Lyndon to coax the runt to drink from a bottle. When a strong bond developed between Lyndon and sheep, a neighbor suggested he join a 4-H sheep club. The first time that he showed, Lyndon clinched the champion and reserve titles. “After that, I had high expecta tions,” Lyndon said, “but for three or four years after that I ended on the bottom.” Last year and this year the Reiffs, children of Lloyd and Lau- Higi py corrosion resistant portable pumps PACER* PUMPS One Lark Avenue 717 656-2161 Leola, PA 17540-9512 Fax 717 656-0477 Toll-free 800 233-3861 Reiff Wins Again At Solanco Fair ra Reiff, have been at the top at almost every fair, but close com petition appeared at Solanco on Wednesday afternoon when five year-old Tiffany Dean made her debut with Dorset market lambs that took the champion lightweight and the reserve champion middle weight titles. Judge Cheryl Fairbam, Chester County Extension agent said, “Quality ran deep here. It’s a show that proves you don’t need large numbers to have top quality. These sheep could compete anywhere and be winners. They have a lot of meat, muscle, and style.” In showmanship, Lisa took the top spot and Lyndon was named champion litter.
