Sale Sees Record Participation THAT NEW BLOOMFIELD (Perry Co.) —The Perry County 4-H and FFA Youth Livestock Sale was held recently at the fairgrounds near Newport. Beginning at 6:30 p.m. in the livestock show ring, 136 lots crossed the auction block. All ani mals were 4-H or FFA market pro duction projects. Seventy-nine buyers from sue counties success fully purchased animals, contri buting to one of the most success ful youth livestock sales ever held. The 1,134 pound Perry county fair grand champion and 4-H grand champion steer, owned by Bob Lowe of Shermansdale, brought a record price of $2.30/pound. The Limounsin-Angus cross was pur chased by Fred D. Thebes & Sons, New Bloomfield. The reserve grand champion and FFA champ ion steer, owned by Amy Byers, Liverpool, was purchased by the Bank of Landisburg for 51.45/pound. The First National Bank of Newport purchased Scott Byers’ reserve champion 4-H steer for $1.05/pound. The FFA reserve champion, owned by Christina Wright of Newport, sold to Juniata Concrete for $.90/pound. The sale average for steers, excluding the champions, was $l.OO/pound. Robert Brunner, Village Square IGA Shermansdale, purchased the grand champion and 4-H grand champion hog owned by Daniel Eicher of Duncannon. The hog sold for $2.60/pound. The reserve grand champion hog and reserve 4-H champion hog, owned by Brian Ebersole, of Duncannon, sold for $2.30/pound to Dale McGuire Insurance. Amy Byers’ FFA champion hog sold to Roy Byers for $1.40/pound, while Roberta Jo Cauffman’s reserve champion FFA hog sold for $l.lO/pound to Hatfield Packing Co. The average sale price on hogs, excluding the champions, was $1.12/pound. Bower Electric and Campbell’s Sporting Goods teamed up to purchase the FFA grand champion market lamb from Amy Byers for SS.OO/pound. Byers also sold a 4-H reserve champion lamb for $ 1,60/pound to Fred Morrow Real Estate, New Bloomfield. Green Acres Realty. Newport, purchased the 4-H champion market lamb from Erin Benner for $3.20/pound. Heather Benner’s FFA reserve champion lamb sold to Wagner’s Electric, Ellittsburg, for $l.lO/pound.
