Senior Holstein Breeder Award Donald Keller and family began in the registered Holstein business in 1941 with the purchase of a registered calf from the Rolling Knoll herd of McKendree Walker & Sons. Some time later, two more registered animals were pur chased and many members of the herd today trace back to these three foundation animals. In 1950, the farm and herd operation at home was turned over to Donald and his brother. At that time, the herd was part grade and part registered. Nine years later, Donald and his new wife, Sylvia, started farming on their own. Since that lime, their “Wind Drift” prefix has become familiar to Holstein breeders across Mary land and throughout the country. One reason for this name recogni tion has been Wind Drift Countess Nora, EX-96. She was twice cho sen All-American and twice Supreme champion at the Central National Holstein Show, and was bred and raised by the Kellers before going on to the national spotlight. Other excellent cows and bulls that carry the Wind Drift prefix include some from the Nora Fami ly, with bulls being sold into AI. Cattle have been exported to fore ign countries and sold in several states, both privately and through consignment sales. All this from a herd that has maintained a rela tively constant herd size of between 55 and 60 milking animals. The herd has been on DHIA test (Turn to Page D 8) Mav L 1992 Till Special introductory offer lets you finance a new Massey Ferguson Lawn & Garden Trac tor with no monthly payments or finance charges until May 1, 1992.
