pasture management in more
detail will be available at the dis
play table.
“The exhibit shows farmers that
using pasture to feed livestock is a
very profitable venture if managed
properly,” says Joel Myers, State
Agronomist for SCS and Chair
man of the Ag Progress Days Con-
servation Committee. “These are
hard times for farmers and they
should explore all alternatives to
save costs on feed. This is an
excellent alternative to explore.”
A program on pasture manage
ment will be held during the three
day event as. well, says Myers.
Thomas Calvert, Area Agronom
ist with SCS in Somerset County,
will discuss intensive rotational
Ag Progress
grazing systems, including pad
dock size, fencing selection,
watering equipment as well as
vegetation. He will also give tips
on such topics as matching live
stock to acres of available pasture.
Calvert will cover information for
both the beginner and the
advanced farmer. The workshop
will be held 10:30 a.m. and 1:30
p.m. daily. An additional one will
be held at 3:30 p.m. on Wednes
day only.
SCS, a U.S. Department of
Agriculture agency, helps indivi
duals, groups, organizations, cities
and towns and county and state
governments to protect their land
and water resources and to use
them wisely
