The National 4-H Center, located just outside Washington, D.C., is the perfect place for the 4-H members to stay while learn ing about citizenship, our demo cratic form of government, and current issues facing the Federal Government. The theme for this year’s CWF conference is “A People’s Pow er.” County 4-H agent Jared Tyson will attend the conference as Pennsylvania group leader. Adams County 4-H teens, along with 43 teens from Pennsylvania, will join members from five other states to use our nation’s capitol as a classroom for a week. The obstacle course at the Shippensburg Fair will be with the market goats. A poster contest will be held at the Shippensburg Fair for the club members. Conodoguinet 4-H Sheep Club On June 22 at Pine Heaven Farm, the Conodoguinet 4-H Sheep Club held their fitting workshop. The morning started with a short business meeting. The club discussed the buying of a new set of scales to weigh the lambs at the fairs and for the members to use. Dianne Conaway reported that the food stand at the wool pool did well. The fitting workshop started with Darrell Reedy showing the club members how to shear a lamb. Fun Olympics & Open Pet Show The Montgomery County 4-H Fair will be held August 15 through 17 at the Montgomery County 4-H Center, located on Route 113, one mile south of Route 73, in Creamery. The Fun Olympics event will begin at 3 p.m. on Friday, August 16. All boys and girls may enter the Olympics for a half hour of games and races. Events include a 3-legged race, running relays, and water balloon toss. There is no fee to enter. Prizes will be awarded to winners of each event. The Horseless Horse Show will be held on Saturday, August 17. Boys and girls pretend that they are a horse from the waist down and a rider from the waist up. They compete in many different events, much as in a real horse show. Ribbons will be awarded. There is a .50 fee per child to enter.
