06-Lancaster Fanning Saturday, May 4,1991 1991 Machinery Custom Rates HARRISBURG (Dauphin Co.) The custom rates shown are averages from voluntary reports by custom operators throughout Pen nsylvania. Most of the rates are stated per acre, cwt., ton, bale, or bushel rather than per hour to reduce the variation due to machinery size. Individual rates vary due to differences in working conditions, services performed, or even the operator’s eagerness to do custom work. Therefore, the average rates shown should not be considered absolute indications of fair chargers. Acreage rates are shown separately for two regions of the state, labeled “Mountain” and “Valley”. The differences in rates between regions reflect differences in terrain, soils and alternative opportuni ties for the labor and equipment used. Figures labeled “The State” represent the straight average of all reports used regardless of geo graphic location. Most custom rates are higher this year. Of the 65 rates reported, 87 percent have increased, 8 percent have decreased, and the remaining 5 percent are the same as last year. The overall average is up 5 percent from the previous year. This percentage increase was computed by adding the rates for all jobs, regardless of basis of charge, and divid ing by last year’s comparable total. 14 Gasoline & Diesel Engines Generators, Water Pumps, ’ High Pressure Washers w Pressure Washers Gas or Diesel 1600 to 3600 PSI Wes Stauffer Engine & Equipment Epnrata, PA 717-738-4215 DAVID KNOPF Agricultural Statistician Generators Gas or Diesel 1 25 KW IOI7 KW Diesel Engine 6 to 20 HP 1&2 Cylinders Gas Engines S to 18 HP Notts Engine Service Shippensburg, PA 717-423-6300 Corn Picking .
