and a crowd estimated
at 15,000 attending the
sale.
The bidders paid
$l5O to $675 for some
580 quilts, quilt tops
and wall hangings. 60
head of horses, 143 car
riages, 85 Winross
trucks were also sold
plus $lOO,OOO worth of
new and used lumber.
Last year the sale of
donated and consigned
items grossed about
$600,000, from which
the fire company made
about $50,000. This
May the 70 member
firemen and 54 ambu
lance personnel plan to
pay off the mortgage on
their fire hall with pro
ceeds from the sale.
