There were 4800 registered bidders and a crowd estimated at 15,000 attending the sale. The bidders paid $l5O to $675 for some 580 quilts, quilt tops and wall hangings. 60 head of horses, 143 car riages, 85 Winross trucks were also sold plus $lOO,OOO worth of new and used lumber. Last year the sale of donated and consigned items grossed about $600,000, from which the fire company made about $50,000. This May the 70 member firemen and 54 ambu lance personnel plan to pay off the mortgage on their fire hall with pro ceeds from the sale. Sale By: One popular recur ring feature of the annu al event is the sale and resale of a cake donated annually by auctioneers Ron Funk and Gordon Ressler. It was resold four times bringing in $7OO. There were 54 local auctioneers who helped to conduct the sale.
