A34-Lancaster Farming, Saturday, March 2, 1991 Maryland Holstein Association Sets Rules For State Show RISING SUN, Md. The rules and regulations for the 1991 Maryland Holstein Show have been set. The 21st state show is to be held April 13 at the Timonium Fair grounds, with Gary Darling, of Charlotte, Vl, to serve as judge. The show starts promptly at 9 a.m. Deadline for applying for the show is March 8. Rules and Regulations There are 20 rules and regula tions for the show. • All entries must be registered in the register of the Holstein Association of America, Registra tion certificates must be at the show and will be checked prior to the show. Signed applications for registration are not acceptable. If an animal is purchased just prior to the show, the owners must bring the registration paper, signed transfer, and check, and submit them to the show chairman. • All exhibitors must be mem bers of the Maryland Holstein Association. Dues for the current year must be paid before entries are submitted. • Partnership- or syndicate owned animals must be entered ana exhibited by the partnership or syndicate, not by one of the members. • Where animals arc owned in partnership with persons residing outside the state of Maryland, each owner must be a member of the Maryland Holstein Association. Animals owned in such a manner, must also be housed in Maryland for at least the previous three months. Proof of animal residency must be provided by the exhibitor. • Harnesses will be used in place of show hats. They are available directly from NASCO. • Animals making up group classes must be shown first in the individual classes in which their ages qualify them. • Entries for Junior Best 3 Females shall consist of three females, from classes 1 through 6. Best 3 Females shall consist of 3 females, any age. All ani mals must have the same prefix, with the exception of animals shown by members in the same family unit. • If a herd is registered in the names of immediate family mem bers, these persons may combine their entries as a “family unit,” and be considered as one exhibitor. In order to qualify as a “family unit” all animals must be kept in the same herd. In order for an animal owned by more than one person to qualify under the “family unit,” all owners must be bona fide mem bers of the “family unit.” • Entries are due March 8. (301) 848-6650. • Cattle may arrive Thursday, April 11, but not before, as bams will not be open. • An official health certificate of entry must be obtained from the state veterinarian and must accom pany the entries of to the show. • The milking parlor will be open Thursday through Saturday to handle all milk. All milk should be handled through the milking parlor; milk not marketable should be disposed of in the parlor as directed. • Cows exhibited in Class 17 (100,000 pounds) must have DHI production data verified. Cows qualifying for this class may be shown in only one class. Premier exhibitor points on partnership- or syndicate-owned animals will go to the partnership or syndicate, not to one of the members of the part nership or syndicate. • The age of a junior exhibitor is determined by membership in either 4-H, FFA, or the Junior Holstein-Freisian Association of America. All participants over 4-H or FFA age must be junior mem bers of the national association. Juniors must be at least 8 years old as of Jan. 1,1990. In case of illness, or emergency, the junior or parent must report to a committee consisting of show chairman, junior chairman and state officer prior to the show. If a substituting showman is allowed, he or she must be of the same age or younger than the junior being replaced. • Junior ribbons will be awarded in classes one (1) through 16, excluding seven (7). • In addition to the above rules and regulations, the show will abide by the Holstein, PDCA Showring Code of Ethics. • An entry form must be signed by each exhibitor in order for the entries to be accepted.
