A high light of the New York Beef Cattle men’s Association (NYBCA) annual meeting held at the Com ing Hilton Inn on February 8 and 9 was the presentation of the Cattle man of the Year Award to Peter Comerford, livestock grading spe cialist with the Department of Ag and Markets. Comerford is a 33-year veteran of the department and has worked very closely over the years to help beef producers develop their herds and market their calves. The Sale Committee, chaired by Jim Lee of southwestern divi sion, met Friday morning and set the sale dates for the year. This was followed by the IRM prog ram, coordinated by-Dr. Danny Equipment Operator Workshop Set LEESPORT (Berks Co.) The 36th annual Equipment Oper ator’s Workshop has been sche duled for Thursday, February 28, 1991, in the auditorium of the Berks County Agricultural Center in Bern Township. The USDA Soil Conservation Service and the Berks County Conservation Dis trict jointly sponsor this event. Friday’s banquet featured Sena tor John R. Kuhl, Jr. of Ham mondsporl who spoke on the proposed state budget and its effect. The New York Caltlewomen met Friday for their business meeting and again Saturday for the election of officers. Topics included in the program will be safety, computers, insur ance, pollution liability, stream and strcambank work, conserva tion practice installations, new rules and regulations including the issuance of general permits, the cost shares available in the Che sapekae Bay watersheds, wetland concerns, solid waste manage ment, and erosion and sediment pollution controls.
