HARRISBURG (Dauphin Co ) Russell and Cleo Claypool of RD 1, Worthington, Armstrong County, recently enrolled the one millionth acre of farmland in a commonwealth agricultural sec urity area (ASA). Claypool and two others were instrumental in getting an ag sec urity area formed in North Buffalo Township last year by circulating the necessary signup petitions. That area now encompasses 3,408 acres on 33 farms. More than 10,860 farmers in 51 Lime application during the winter allows the limestone to react a«d ' , Hi-Calcium rfiii LIMESTONE Ag Security Area Enrolls A counties have joined ASAs in Pennsylvania since 1981, when the Legislature authorized their formation. The total land enrolled in ag security areas now stands at 1,075,197 acres. An ASA is created when town ship supervisors approve a peti tion presented by farmers who collectively own 500 or more acres of viable farmland. The ASAs are reviewed and re established every seven years.
