Planting pro fessionally cleaned and bagged soybean seed can help farmers increase their yield potential. “Results from our Field Analys is Comparison Trial (FACT) plots and Midwest university trials show a two-to-three-bushels-per acre advantage over seed from the bin,” said John Radke, regional agronomist for DEKALB Plant Genetics. “That translates roughly to a $l5-to-$2O-per-acre immedi ate advantage at today’s prices.” Research indicates that it takes •approximately a half bushel of added yield per acre to pay for new, clean and thoroughly tested soybean seed. Radke said that growers who use new seed beans are assured of higher quality beans and yields at harvest because the beans are genetically pure. “A good soybean seed will be at least 85 to 90 percent germ,” the DEKALB agronomist said. “But if a farmer plants grain seed with a lower germination rate, he may not get the desired stand.” Radke also noted that poor stand establishment increases costs because the farmer may have to replant a field. “That could involve another Sl5-201oss off the top just to rees tablish a stand,” he said. ’aiopyjsmm ft .r All-Purpose Sprayer SHORT ON CASH! a Lease Purchase Plan Also ;;;> .■ Available '■ lon Sweet Com, Nursery, pMlMflna; _ Vegetables- S) ,e!
