Penn State Dairy Team In International Contest UNIVERSITY PARK (Centre Co.) The 1990 Penn State Dairy Products Judging Team participated In a regional and an International collegiate contest, placing 6th and 12th. Seven Penn State University College of Agriculture students evaluated eight sam ples of six dairy products for appearance, flavor, body and texture. Their scores were compared to those of three dairy Industry official judges for each product. They were In Glenview, 111., for the Midwestern Regional Contest and Montreal, Quebec, Canada for the International Collegiate Contest. Four of the students have already helped ensure that consumers receive high quality, good tasting products by working one or more summers In the dairy Industry and five of the seven plan to seek employment in the dairy industry upon graduation. Most of the funds for training and travel were provided by the dairy processing Industry in Pennsylvania. Cash and Carry Equipment Promotions Recently my husband and I had brunch with some friends in their home which has been turned into a bed and breakfast. We were given a tour of their 19th century home filled with antiques. Being an interior decorator, our hostess has many large bouquets of dried flowers artfully displayed every where. One wall of the living room was covered with paintings by local artists. A summerhouse, located near by. was also furnished tastefully and had a walk-in fireplace. The upper floor was reached by a winding, curved stairway the same as one in our 1813 house. The beds had newly hand-woven coverlets and there were braided rugs on the floor. It definitely had a country flavor as it was located along the Conestoga River. Each guest had his picture taken and he was asked to write a few comments in a book. This helped the hostess to remember each visitor. There are many bed and break fast establishments in Lancaster County. I’ve had the priviledge of touring many of them. People who have traveled overseas often comment on the pleasure they received as they stayed with different families. At one point my son suggested that I use some of our summer cot tages in this manner. Now 1 do not mind working, but I can not ima gine stripping beds and cleaning up day after day for guests. I can easily keep myself busy caring for my own family. Alert On Nutrition There is a new mail order net work marketing company, Omnit rition International, which distri butes a line of nutrition supplc mcnts developed by “Nutritionists” Durk Pearson and Sandy Shaw. Their qualifications as nalionally-renowned nutrition scientists are suspect according to the Food Science Department at Penn State. While these products may not be dangerous they are unnecessary and a waste of ycur money. 17
