The Ephrata Area Young and Adult Farmers’ Association (EAYFA) 22nd annual banquet will be highlighted with the instal lation of new officers elected at their January 15th monthly meet ing. The banquet will be held at the Durlach-Mt. Neil Zimmer man, 100 Woodcomer Rd., Lititz. Neil feeds out about 135 steers a year and farms about 70 acres of com, 20 acres of barley and soy beans. He is active in the Ham mercreek Mennonite Church. • Public Relations Director: Daryl L. Martin, 626 Millway Rd., Lititz. Daryl and wife Dawn have three children, Malinda, Brian, and Nathan. They are a major work force in the family farming operation, consisting of 700 feed er cattle per year and 800 acres of com, soybeans, tobacco, and alfal fa. The awards will be presented at the PJCC Annual Meeting in April, at the Ramada Inn, Sharon, PA. The club recently created a Pen nsylvania Jersey Youth Achieve ment Award. Applicants for the award must own one or more registered Jerseys and be between the ages of 9 and 19 as of January 1,1991. This award will be given for two age divisions: Junior Divi sion, 9 to 13 years of age; and Senior Division, 14 to 19 years of age. The Senior Division winner will be entered in the National Jersey Youth Achievement Con test Applicants should contact the Youth Program Coordinator for the appropriate application forms. The club will also be awarding the Jacob M. Brunges Memorial Trophy for outstanding milk pro duction. Jersey Juniors can nomi nate their registered Jerseys on official DHI or DHIA test for these awards. Members should submit an official individual cow record (blue form) which bears an issue date from 1/1/90 to 12/31/90. This form is required to give contest officials a 305 2x mature equivalent value for the records submitted. Contestants are allowed to enter only one record per year. The winning records will be forwarded to the National Jersey Youth Production Contest. Several other contests are open to Jersey juniors. The club will select an outstanding scrapbook aorotoch* elsSk£, award in two age divisions, 9 to 14 years of age and 15 to 19 years of age. The scrapbooks are to pertain to each contestant’s Jersey project during the 1990 calendar year. The scrapbooks will be evaluated on both the quality and quantity of their contents along with the artis tic skill and creativeness shown in their development An outstanding first year pro ject award will also be selected. This contest is open to active Jersey members of an organized 4-H club, who are 9 to 12 years of age. Contestants are required to submit their official Project Record Book along with a hand written story entitled, “Highlights of my First Jersey Project Year.” Finally, a $2OO scholarship is available to Jersey youth attending a college or who are high school senior planning to enroll in a col lege program within one year of high school graduation. Applic ants must have been actively involved with Jersey Cattle for at least 2 years prior to their date of application. Interested juniors can contact the Youth Program Coor dinator for further information and application forms.
