826-Lancaster Farming, Saturday, January 19, 1991 Mowing Horsin’ Around 4-H Club members attended the banquet: Jennifer Goodman, Eileen Holm, Michelle Kerdeman, Melissa Melskey, Leah Harvey, Kelly Sullivan, Lori Harnlsh, Erin Hess (behind), Jessica Hill, Sharon Harnlsh, and Mike Kerdeman. Absent were Nathan Stoltzfus, Jared Rottmund, Evangelyn Stoltzfus, and Emily Krelner. Ell HAPPENINGS Horsin’ Around Ends Year The Horsin’ Around 4-H Club ended its year by pre paring and serving a holiday banquet for their 47 family members and invited guests. Served were fruit punch and snacks, turkey meatballs in a hot cranberry sauce, potatoes au- gratin, peas, com, mixed greens salad with fresh fruit, and hot angel bis cuits. Mint and chocolate parfaits, with cookies and homemade candies were served as dessert. Working in pairs, each member prepared at least two different items and had responsibility for other activities as well. In addition to members honoring their families, indivi dual members were recognized with end-of-year awards. Jessica Hill received the Horsin’ Around’s Outstanding Member of the Year Award. Hill has been an active 4-H member for five years. She served on the Lancaster County Horse Bowl Team, gave a presentation on driving which earned her a blue ribbon at both county and region al competitions, had perfect attendance at meetings, received a blue ribbon for the Veterinary Science Project Book, and was an active participant at the 4-H Fair and in other club activities during 1990. Hill also belongs to other 4-H Clubs, including Boots and Saddles, Lancaster County Production Club, and the Lancaster Woolies. In addition, she belongs to the Penn Manor’s FFA Club, track team, and International Thesbian Society. Kelly Sullivan, Litilz, received recognition for highest scoring junior veterinary science book. The highest scor ing senior veterinary science book belonged to Eileen Holm, Manheim. High Sponsorship honors went to Sha ron and Lori Hamish, Lititz. The Sportsmanship Award was presented to Mike Kerdeman, Manheim. Juniors Melissa Meiskey and Kelly Sullivan, Lititz were recog nized for their presentation on the Arabian Horse. Senior Eileen Holm was honored for her presentation on buying a used saddle, having earned blue and gold ribbons at county, regional, and state competitions. Holm repre sented Pennsylvania in national competition in Louisvil le, Ky. in November. As individuals, Lori Hamish placed 12th and Mike Kerdeman third in state competition in horse judging. As a team, they placed Bth. Leah Harvery, Lancaster; Michelle Kerdeman, Manheim; Jessica Hill, Conestoga; and Team Captain Sharon Hamish comprised the Horse Bowl Team, which placed second in the state. Ed and Lois Holm were selected as the Outstanding Parents of the Year. Also honored were the adult leaders, Rose Fcllenbaum, Nancy Hamish, and Pat and Dave Hill. The Horsin’ Around 4-H Club is designed as an addition al opportunity to learn more in-depth information about horses, and is open to any Lancaster County youngster ages 8-19 who is interested in horses.
