When plan ning pesticide programs this wint er and next spring, keep in mind water quality, wildlife and the environment, says Dean Belt, Uni versity of Delaware Cooperative Extension renewable resources agent. “Agricultural pesticides can pose a number of hazards to wild life,” he says. “Some chemicals are toxic enough to kill wildlife on contact while others can weaken them. This condition makes them more likely to fall victim to dis ease, predation or harsh weather.” Belt adds that the loss of habitat caused by farming and reduced food supply as a result of killing both target and non-target insects can cause hardships for wildlife as well. “With special management consideration, agriculture and wildlife can be compatible,” he says. “And although some prac tices may be inconvenient at times, it is worth the effort if you value our environment. ‘There are many opportunities to develop management plans for your farm or even on a field-by field basis when special environ mental concerns exist,” Belt con tinues. “Reducing pesticide WINTER TIRE SALE STEEL BELTED RADIAL M&S STEEL BELTED RADIAL REVENGER M&S • 2 Steel • Polyester Body Plys Letters On • JUued White Letters Blackwell Side • M&S Rating INNOVATION II Lancaster Farming, Saturday, December 8, 1990-A37 • 2 Steel Belli • Polyester Cords REVENGER STEEL W nrnnroMijTjTif ~n i UTrmTTiTrm f i rnTTtTOMB'I.II.M I I n7nTTTTK.'H'!'I nrnnnTwnrTi mi.imj-iinpii tMi'WHi-Jj-l-H'Mj ;i A - y , nmanuml / g<*Sm nuaiii'.'Tni.
