He was first elected as a Congressman in 1984 without the support of his party and managed to win with an 18,000 vote margin over the three term incumbent opponent. He was re elected by receiving more than 72% of the vote in 1986 and in 1988 Traficant again maintained an overwhelming majority. Allen Deiter, President of Penn sylvania Farmers Union, will call the convention to order at 12:00 Noon on November 8.
