Franklin County
Franklin County Farm-City
Week activities committee is
chaired by Dalton Paul, who also
sits on the state Farm-City council.
The Franklin County banquet is
scheduled for Nov. 20,6:4S p.m. at
the Kauffman Community Center.
The two-meat meal costs $7.75 per
adult, $4 for children aged 6-12,
and no cost for those children less
than 6 years old.
Musical entertainment is
planned along with door prizes and
a presentation by the Chambers
burg Chamber of Commerce and
the Franklin County Farmers’
Association.
Those involved in the county
job-exchange program will also
give a presentation during the
banquet.
Chester County
In Chester County, the 1990
Farm-City program includes an
open-house tour program at five
farms in the county from 10 a.m. to
4 p.m. on Nov. 10.
Included in the tours are:
Twin Brook Winery is located
along Swan Road, south of Route
30, near Parkesburg. Visitors are
welcome to the winery’s tasting
rooms, vinerard and winery. Own

Steams. It is a farm for breeding
Thoroughbred and Appaloosa
horses. Also on the farm are Dorset
sheep, lambs and Nubian goats.
Glen Willow Orchard is a
162-acre farm owned and operated
by C.O. Rosazza and sons. The
farm raises apples, peaches and
vegetables to sell in their retail
store.
Joyce Bohmier invites you to
visit her herd of dairy goats. She
has seven milking, five doelings,
and four buck goats pastured on
two acres.
Charles Wilkinson Dairy
Farm is 200 acres and has a herd of
Holstein cows. The public is
invited to watch them being milked
and also to meet the county dairy
princess, Lauri Hicks.

AMERY, Wis. A 3-year-old
Holstein cow, Hilltop-Hanover-B
Bellerina-ET, recently sold for
$210,000 during a sale of 182 lots
at Hilltop-Hanover Farm in York
town, N. Y„ that grossed almost $2
million.
According to sales manager
Tom Morris LTD, of Amery Wis.,
the sale grossed $1,793,974 and
averaged $9,857 per head. It
included a variety of cows, heifers
and bulls.
It is believed to have been the
highest averaging sale in the East
so far this year, according to the
Morris agency.
Large sales of top-notch Hols
tein stock have intermittently
occured at Hilltop-Hanover Farm
Sales over the years. It was not a
herd dispersal, according to the
Morris agency. Hilltop-Hanover
Farm is managed by David
Younger.

The buyer of Bellerina-ET was
B.Giles Brophy, of New York
City. The consignor was Brophy,
Cormdale & Valentina, also of
New York City.
Bellerina was graded a Very
Good-88 and as a 2-year-old
showed a 365-day lactation record
of 37,359 pounds of milk with 4.6
percent milkfat (1,734 pounds).
Bellerina’s dam is Brigeen
Hanover Debra, an Excellent
EE9I as an 8-year-old. Debra is
well known because she is the
Holstein breed’s only fourth gen
eration cow rated Excellent to pass
a production record of 40,000
pounds of milk in a lactation. As a
3-year-old, Debra made 42,910
pounds of milk, 1,882 pounds of
milkfat and 1,389 pounds of pro
tein during a 365-day lactation.
That was on a twice-a-day milking
schedule.
The sire of Bellerina is Carlin-M
Ivanhoe Bell, an Excellent 93 at

12-years and also very well known
in the Holstein breed and is a gold
medal proven sire. He has a PTA of
-1-1,648 milk, +s7fat and
+s4protein. He was rated 99 per
cent reliable in July.
The second highest selling ani
mal went for $115,000 and is a
maternal sister to Bellerina.
Hilltop-Hanover-B Mark Dove-
ET, bom in November 1986, is
rated an Excellent 92 and as a
2-year-bld produced 21,490
pounds of milk, 818 pounds of
milkfat and 732 protein.
Purchased by Kathleen E.
Seidel, Bellemead, N.J., Dove was
sired by Walkway Chief Mark,
also rated 99 percent reliable in
July. Dove was consigned by Bro
phy. Shore, Cormdale &
Valentina.
Buyers at the sale came from
more than 20 states, Canadian pro
vinces and several foreign
countries.
