YORK (York Co.) In addi
tion to the usual competition of
market lambs and breeding sheep,
4-H members at the York Fair
turned out for a variety of events
testing their shepherding skills,
showmanship, fitting and even
their imagination.
The blocking and grooming
contest saw 39 head of off-the
pasture sheep matched with 4-H
members who had one hour to fit
them to show readiness. Amy Dut
rey, Dallastown, finished with
champion honors, after taking first
place in the senior age group. Sec
ond in the seniors was Jean Sher
ry, Thomasville, while R.J. Sher
ry, thomasville, placed third.
Matt Sellers won the
intermediate age grouping, then
earned the judge’s nod for reserve
champion overall. Second inter
mediate was Cindy Dehoff, Glen
Rock, with Dave Olson, East Ber-

fitting-showmanship runoffs.

reserve showman, while Greg
claimed champion showman hon
ors and reserve fitter. Mike Kline
dinst claimed third in both fitting
and showmanship senior division.

intermediate group went to Lisa
Dehoff, Glen Rock, first, Amy
Shaffer, East Berlin, second, and
Vanessa Debnam, Hanover, third.
Intermediate fitter winner was

Lead line competition com
bined stylish wool garments with
fine-fit sheep in a lamb-and-owner
fashion show. Top sports in the
senior age division went to Wendy
Debnam, Hanover, first. Jean
Sherry, Thomasville, second, and
Amy Dutrey, Dallastown, third.
Heather Moya*, Hanover, was
first intermediate, over Dave
Olson, East Berlin, second, and
Drew Bankert, Red Lion, third.
Junior division honors were
claimed by Meghan Hayes, Red
Lion, first, Melissa Mancuso, Pel-
ton, second, and Rebecca Emmett,
Wellsville, third.
Drawing a standing-room-only
crowd was the popular sheep
decorator class, with more than 30
lambs and owners putting on a
colorful costume parade. Matt
Trestle’s mutant teenage ninja
sheep took the judge’s eye as the
funniest entry. Second was Jody
Dutrey, Dallastown, with a third
