VERNON ACHENBACH JR. Lancaster Farming Staff MANHEIM (Lancaster Co.) Although small compared to other shows of other types of livestock at community fairs in southern Pennsylvania, the 2-year old Manheim Fair Goat Show has continued to attract a dedicated core of enthusiasts. Tim Grube, chairman of the show, said that despite a lack of a 4-H group to promote and educate young and old about die small milk and meat ruminants, five families in northern and eastern Lancaster County have stayed with the fled gling program and have improved the quality of animals gready in just one year. Show judge Richard Stoneback, a veterinarian and goat enthusiast from New Oxford in Chester County, constantly supported Grube’s observation about the quality of animals at the Manheim Fair while giving his reasons for placing the animals in their respec tive orders. The Manheim Goat Show does not separate breeds but vies indivi dual animals for exhibiting the best characteristics desired in the respective classes. Taking the best doe of show was Wendy, a 3-year-old that also cap tured the senior champion title for Darren Bishop of Elizabethtown. The reserve senior champion doe and reserve best doe of show Manheim Dairy Goat Show Continues To Grow was an aged doe, Cheri, owned by Mike Hawthorne of Mt. Joy. In the best bred-and-owned class, Mandy Grube’s 3-year-old doe Jackie was judged best.
